never gonna get on the tumblr hates Snape bandwagon
#never gonna give you up#shitty wizards#he just had a really specific function to perform in the story#and people begrudge the closure the book tried to give his story#and it makes me perplexed#like did you think Harry would name his kid after Sirius?#who had died literally books and books before?#and whose story had already been given closure narratively speaking?#should he have named his kid after Remus who had a living child to give closure to his narrative?#no?#then why are you begrudging me closure on my favorite character’s terrible miserable pathetic life#the Gollum of Harry Potter#that naming thing was just like Frodo thinking/talking about Gollum after he’d already died#like ”you might have been pathetic but you performed a necessary function for us to all live so thanks for that”#like it isn’t that big of a deal#don’t make it a thing
— I think this is a really interesting point that isn’t brought up a lot - but that said, I don’t hate Snape in the sense of hating his existence in the story, I think as a person, he’s unforgivable and irredeemable, but I realize he’s absolutely necessary to the plot and I don’t hate him by any means - I also think that as a person he’s very interesting and I do find his story tragic, although his actions are still inexcusable imo.
So again like, on a meta level I understand why she had Harry name his son after him, but on a character level I don’t really buy it? Like, Sirius’s death was books and books ago but it’s still a raw and painful thing for Harry, and Sirius had an important role in Harry’s life - so from the perspective of Harry, the character, the person, naming his son after Sirius might have made more sense.
